Life’s a Beach by Martin Parr.
If you’re in New York, Life’s a Beach opens next Wednesday, May 15 at Aperture Gallery. Even more exciting is that Parr is hosting a “beach party” at the gallery on Saturday, May 18th from 9 - 6 and will be shooting portraits on a first-come, first-serve basis to those who sign up ahead of time and have a confirmed time slot (or day-of if there are slots still available), and cost $400.
All details here.

New York Arbor by Mitch Epstein.
I used to walk by this particular tree every day when I lived in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn and always thought it was an oddity.

Mapping Manhattan: A Love (And Sometimes Hate) Story in Maps by 75 New Yorkers by Becky Cooper.
Cooper has been inviting people to draw and contribute their own maps of Manhattan on this collaborative Tumblr blog and has turned the best into a book. These are more than maps, they’re windows into people lives.
The last page of the book allows readers to draw their own map and mail it to Copper (last image above by Maria Popova).

Two of my favorite images from Subway by Bruce Davidson.
I just got the Aperture edition of this book and it’s stunning. Real beauty comes out of the grit and filth that was the New York City subway system in 1980. If you’re looking to buy someone a photo book for the holidays definitely check this out.
